How to Plan an Office Move in Ventura County (Tote Guide)

A practical playbook for moving a Ventura County office with rented totes: how many you need per workstation, labeling IT gear, timing, and what it costs.

We started 805 Totes for families moving across Ventura County, but a surprising share of our calls now come from offices — small law firms in Ventura, medical practices in Camarillo, agency suites in Thousand Oaks, and warehouses cleaning out storage in Oxnard. Office moves are actually the best use case for rented totes, and here's how we'd plan one.

Why totes beat cardboard for an office

  • They stack and seal. Files, monitors, and desk contents stay closed and dust-free overnight in a half-packed suite.
  • No tape, no box building. Your team packs at their own desk in minutes instead of assembling flats.
  • Nothing to break down after. We pick up. No cardboard mountain in the new lobby on day one.
  • They roll. A dolly comes with every rental, so one person can move a full workstation down a hallway.

How many totes per workstation?

Our rule of thumb is 4–6 totes per workstation. Add on top of that:

  • File room: ~1 tote per two file-cabinet drawers.
  • Kitchen/breakroom: 6–10 totes.
  • Supply closet: 5–8 totes.
  • Server/IT closet: 3–5 totes, plus moving blankets for anything rack-mounted.

A 10-person office usually lands between 60 and 80 totes. That's above our residential packages, so it's a custom quote — we price commercial jobs per tote per week rather than by bedrooms.

A four-week timeline that actually works

  • 4 weeks out: Confirm the new floor plan and who sits where. Lock your move date and reserve totes.
  • 2 weeks out: Purge. Shred old files, recycle dead electronics, donate furniture you won't reassemble.
  • 1 week out: We deliver totes and dollies to your suite. Staff pack personal desks last, common areas first.
  • Move day: IT goes first, then files, then desks. Label by destination room, not origin.
  • Day after: Unpack, and we come pick everything up on the scheduled date.

Labeling for a business move

Residential moves label by room. Office moves should label by destination desk or department — "AR-3", "Exam 2", "Reception". Include a one-line contents note so IT knows which tote holds cables versus monitors. Keep one clearly marked "OPEN FIRST" tote per department with chargers, mouse, keyboard, and the day-one paperwork.

Timing around your business hours

Most of our commercial neighbors move Thursday night through Sunday so Monday opens normally. Weekdays are our quieter delivery days, which means more flexible drop-off windows for you. If your building has a freight elevator or dock reservation, tell us that up front — we'll match our delivery slot to it.

What it costs

Residential packages run from Studio $119 up to 5 Bedroom+ $479 (plus tax), and every one includes free delivery, pickup, and a dolly. Commercial jobs get quoted individually based on tote count, rental length, and how many dollies and moving blankets you need. Need longer than the standard window? Extra days are $20/day for the first three and $12/day after, capped at 10.
