Totes solve the boxes. What wrecks most Ventura County moves is the other stuff — the dresser that gouges a doorframe in Camarillo, the fridge that has to come down three steps in Ventura, the couch that scuffs the hallway paint on the way out. Blankets and the right dolly fix almost all of it, and they cost a lot less than a security deposit.
How many moving blankets you actually need
People wildly underestimate this. A blanket only helps if the surface is fully covered, and one blanket covers about one medium piece.
- Studio / 1-bedroom: 4–6 blankets.
- 2-bedroom: 8–10 blankets.
- 3–4 bedroom: 12+ — a big dresser or a TV eats two on its own.
- Rule of thumb: one per large item, plus 2–3 spares to lay across the truck floor and pad the tailgate.
Ours are heavy quilted blankets, not the thin felt kind. Add them to any package when you reserve.
Wrap it right, not just fast
- Corners first: damage almost always starts at a corner. Fold the blanket over the corner, then tape or band the blanket to itself — never tape to furniture finish.
- Glass and mirrors: blanket, then flat against a wall of the truck, never lying under weight.
- Drawers: leave clothes in them, wrap the whole dresser, and band it shut. Empty drawers rattle and pop open on the 101.
- Leather and wood: wrap directly — blankets breathe, plastic wrap traps heat and can haze a finish in an August truck.
Which dolly to grab
Every rental includes a dolly. If the move has a heavy or awkward piece, add the right one instead of muscling it:
- Four-wheel furniture dolly: the default we include. Stack totes, roll dressers and boxes across flat ground and garages.
- Standard hand truck: stairs, thresholds, tight condo hallways. If your move has any steps, take one.
- Appliance dolly: fridge, washer, dryer, safe. It has a strap and stair glides — the difference between a two-person job and an injury.
- Convertible dolly: flips between upright and flat cart. Good when you don't know what you'll hit.
You can add up to five dollies to a single booking, which is usually the play when you have friends helping — the bottleneck is never boxes, it's everyone waiting on the one dolly.
Loading order that saves your walls
Load heaviest and squarest first, against the cab. Totes stack cleanly because they're uniform — our 27" x 17" x 12" totes hold up to 65 lbs and don't bulge like cardboard, so a tote wall stays a wall. Wrapped furniture goes upright along the sides. Mattresses and mirrors ride vertically at the end. Anything soft fills gaps so nothing shifts on Las Posas or the Conejo Grade.

Give yourself time to unwrap
Unwrapping is slower than wrapping, and rushing it is when the damage actually happens. Studio and 1-bedroom rentals run 5 days, 2- and 3-bedroom get a full week, and 4-bedroom moves get 10 days. Need more time? Extend by the day — $20/day for the first three days, $12/day after, up to 10 extra days.
