The question we get most from Ventura County neighbors isn't "how many totes?" — it's "how long do I get them?" Timing is the part people underestimate, especially when escrow slides a few days or the truck shows up late. Here's how we think about rental length after doing a lot of local moves ourselves.
The honest answer: most people need 5–7 days
A realistic local move looks like this: two or three evenings of packing, one move day, then a couple of days to unpack the kitchen and the kid's room before life takes over. That's why our rental windows are built the way they are:
- Studio & 1-Bedroom: 5 days.
- 2-Bedroom and up: 1 week.
- 3 Bedroom: 7 days.
- 4 Bedroom: 10 days — bigger homes always take longer than people plan for.
If you're moving across town — Camarillo to Ventura, Thousand Oaks to Moorpark — that window is usually plenty. Cross-county or a move with a storage stop in the middle is where you want a buffer.
Count backward from move day, not forward
The cleanest way to schedule: pick your move day, then have totes delivered 2–3 days before. That gives you two solid packing evenings without living inside a maze of full totes for a week. Our delivery is free anywhere in Ventura County, and pickup is free too — you just leave them stacked by the door.
A rough packing pace to plan against: about one room per evening for a couple, less if you're packing solo with kids around. Use our moving checklist to sequence it so you're not opening totes back up looking for the coffee maker.
What if you need more time?
Escrow moves. Painters run behind. It happens. You can extend day by day instead of committing to another whole week:
- $20/day for the first 3 extra days
- $12/day after that
- 10 extra days max
So 2 extra days is $40, 5 days is $84, and 10 days is $144. You can add extra days right in the booking flow, and your pickup date updates automatically so there's no confusion about when we're coming.
Signs you should book the longer window up front
- You're doing a two-stage move — house to storage to new house.
- You're renovating first — floors or paint before furniture goes in.
- Your closing date isn't firm. Ventura County escrows slip more often than people expect.
- You're packing solo. Double whatever timeline you have in your head.
Extra days are cheap compared to a stressful last night of throwing things into trash bags because the totes go back tomorrow.
Signs you can go short
Studio or 1-bedroom, help lined up, and a move under 15 miles? The 5-day window is genuinely enough. Pack the night before, move, unpack the essentials, and we'll grab the totes on the way through. Our totes hold up to 65 lbs each and a dolly comes with every rental, so a small move often takes fewer trips than you'd guess with cardboard.
Where we deliver
We're a family-owned Ventura County business and we run the routes ourselves — Ventura, Oxnard, Camarillo, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Moorpark, and Santa Paula. Not sure which package fits? Our pricing page lays out tote counts by home size, and you can always call us at (805) 273-8732 and we'll talk it through.
Pick your window, add days only if you need them, and skip the cardboard cleanup entirely.
