Apartment and condo moves in the 805 fail for boring reasons: the elevator was reserved by someone else, the loading zone was full, or the HOA needed a certificate of insurance nobody asked for. We deliver totes into complexes all over Ventura County every week, and the moves that go smoothly all did the same handful of things a week early.
Call the office before you call anyone else
- Elevator reservation: most Thousand Oaks and Ventura buildings book elevators in 2–4 hour blocks. Reserve the morning slot.
- Move-in hours: plenty of HOAs cut off moves at 5pm and ban Sundays entirely.
- Certificate of insurance: if you're hiring movers, the HOA may need one on file days ahead.
- Loading zone: ask where a truck can actually park. In older Oxnard and Ventura complexes the answer is sometimes "the red curb, briefly."
Totes beat cardboard in a building
Stairs and elevators reward stacking. Our 27" x 17" x 12" totes hold up to 65 lbs, stack square on a dolly, and don't sag when you tilt them going through a doorway. Cardboard bottoms fail on exactly the trip where you're carrying two boxes and can't see your feet.
Every rental includes a dolly. If your unit is upstairs with no elevator, add a standard hand truck — it's the single best add-on for a walk-up. Not sure how many totes you need? Start with the tote estimates by bedroom count.
Plan the path, not just the pile
- Prop nothing: a wedged fire door is a fast way to get an HOA letter. Use a doorstop or a person.
- Protect the elevator: ask if pads are provided. If not, a couple of moving blankets over the rails saves your deposit.
- Stage in the hallway, not the elevator: load full carts, ride once, unload fast.
- Label by room, big: the person carrying isn't the person unpacking.
Time your delivery around the building, not your calendar
We deliver totes the day before your move so packing isn't competing with loading. Studio and 1-bedroom rentals run 5 days, 2- and 3-bedroom get a full week, and 4-bedroom moves get 10 days. Need longer because your building only allows weekday moves? Extend by the day — $20/day for the first three days, $12/day after, up to 10 extra days.
Work backward from your move-in date with the moving checklist so utilities and address changes are handled before the elevator clock starts.
